Steak

Central to this dish is the steak, and for this recipe, thinly sliced ribeye is the hero. Its tenderness and deep, rich flavor elevate the sliders to a whole new level. When you bite into the juicy meat, you’ll understand why choosing the right cut is essential—it’s a game changer.

Provolone Cheese

What brings all the elements together? Provolone cheese, of course! When melted, it creates a creamy, luscious layer that binds the flavors of meat and vegetables, ensuring every bite is a delight.

Vegetables

Adding a pop of flavor and texture, a mix of sautéed onions and green bell peppers introduces a sweet, slightly crunchy layer. This balance makes each slider not only satisfying but truly delightful.

Cooking Tips and Notes for Philly Cheesesteak Sliders

Choosing the right cut of steak
When it comes to making the ultimate Philly Cheesesteak Sliders, selecting the right cut of steak is crucial. Thinly sliced ribeye is the gold standard — its marbling renders it juicy and flavorful. However, if you’re looking for a leaner option, flank steak can work well too. Just ensure it’s sliced very thinly against the grain to maintain tenderness.

Slicing tips for the perfect texture
Achieving that perfect melt-in-your-mouth texture in your Philly Cheesesteak Sliders starts with slicing the steak correctly. Freeze your beef for about 30 minutes before cutting; this firms it up, making it easier to slice thinly. Aim for slices about 1/4-inch thick. The thinner the slice, the more it will absorb your delicious seasonings and flavors.

Adjusting flavors to your liking
Feel free to get creative with the flavors in your Philly Cheesesteak Sliders. If you like a bit of heat, add some sliced jalapeños or a touch of hot sauce. Don’t shy away from experimenting with cheeses either; while provolone and Cheez Whiz are traditional, a sharp cheddar or melted gouda can add an exciting twist that will impress your friends.

Description

Delicious sliders made with steak, peppers, and provolone cheese, all nestled in Hawaiian rolls.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package Hawaiian rolls
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, (divided)
  • 1 pound steak, (thinly sliced)
  • ½ large onion, (thinly sliced and divided)
  • 1 green bell pepper, (thinly sliced)
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 3 tablespoons butter, (melted)
  • 2½ teaspoons concentrated beef stock

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray with cooking spray.
  2. Slice the rolls in half horizontally to separate the top and bottom, keeping them together as one slab. Do not break into individual rolls.
  3. Place the bottom half on the baking sheet.
  4. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in the skillet. Season the steak with salt and pepper and cook over medium heat until done, remove from skillet, and place on top of the bottom slab of rolls.
  5. Take about 10 pieces of your sliced onion and set them aside. In the same skillet heat the remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil and cook green pepper and remaining onion together until tender.
  6. Place the green pepper and onion on top of the steak.
  7. Top everything with 8 slices of provolone cheese. Place the other half of the rolls on top.
  8. Melt butter and concentrated beef stock together. Stir to combine. Brush mixture over top of rolls. Finely dice reserved onion slices and sprinkle over top of rolls.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, or until cheese is melted and the tops have started to brown. If necessary, cover the rolls with aluminum foil to prevent them from browning too much.
  10. Slice into individual sliders and serve warm.
