Description
Delicious homemade pretzel bites that are perfect for snacking.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 whole egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water and sugar, then sprinkle the yeast over the top. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Using a wooden spoon or your hands, combine until a cohesive dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a damp cloth. Allow the dough to rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). After rising, punch down the dough and divide it into small sections. Roll each section into a rope about 1/2 an inch thick and cut into 1-inch pieces.
- In a large pot, bring about 3 cups of water to a boil and whisk in the baking soda. Boil the dough pieces in batches for about 30 seconds each, then remove with a slotted spoon and set aside on a greased baking sheet.
- Brush the pretzel bites with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Let them cool slightly before serving with your favorite dips!
Notes
- Serve with your favorite dips for more flavor.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
