Description

This slow cooker barbecue chicken is tender, flavorful, and perfect for sandwiches or wraps.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce (your favorite variety)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Prep the Chicken. Place the boneless skinless chicken breasts directly into the bottom of your crockpot. No need to cut them — they’ll shred easily once cooked.
  2. Step 2: Mix the Sauce. In a small bowl, combine the barbecue sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir until smooth and well blended.
  3. Step 3: Pour and Coat. Pour the sauce mixture over the chicken, making sure all the pieces are coated. Use a spoon or spatula to gently spread the sauce if needed.
  4. Step 4: Slow Cook. Cover and cook on low for 6–7 hours or on high for 3–4 hours. The chicken should be fully cooked and fork-tender when done.
  5. Step 5: Shred the Chicken. Once cooked, remove the chicken and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded chicken to the crockpot and stir it into the remaining sauce for maximum flavor.
  6. Step 6: Serve and Enjoy. Serve warm on sandwich buns, in wraps, over rice, or on top of baked potatoes. Add coleslaw for a classic Southern touch.

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider marinating the chicken in the sauce overnight.
  • This dish pairs well with cornbread or a fresh salad.
